Packing a lunch for school or going on a picnic is fun and easy with this list of sack lunch ideas.
If packing perishable foods (including onion or mayonnaise) always include an ice pack or small, frozen water bottle.
  • Sliced cheese and crackers
  • hazelnut spread and/or peanut butter on graham crackers
  • Hotdog chunks with barbecue bean
  • Sliced beef stick with wheat crackers
  • Cheese sticks
String cheese is fun to eat, but it can get slimy if left out of the refrigerator for very long. Make an ice pack by freezing one cup of water in a small resealable bag. Then place in another larger resealable bag along with the cheese sticks or other sack lunch items that need to remain cool.
  • Boiled egg
  • Tuna sandwich (pack ingredients separately)
Assemble tuna, mayonnaise, pickle, and bread just before eating for it to be the freshest.
  • Sliced apples (brush with orange juice to keep from browning)
  • Baby carrots and raisons
To make carrot salad, mix shredded carrots with mayonnaise, crushed pineapple, and raisons.
  • Trail mix
Make your own with various cereals, nuts, dried fruit, and chocolate pieces.
  • Granola bar
  • Vegetable pieces with ranch dressing
Try cutting small pieces of broccoli, cauliflower, celery sticks, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, or baby carrots.
  • Melon balls with grapes and sliced almonds
Any nut can be used or they can be omitted altogether. Try coconut or add some yogurt just before eating.
  • Flavored yogurt
  • Peanut butter and jam sandwich (assemble just before eating)
Some kids like to add pretzels or potato chips to their sandwich.
  • Soup, chili, or ramen noodle (heated and stored in a tightly sealed thermos.)
  • Teriyaki chicken wrapped in a lettuce leaf
Use and iceberg or romaine lettuce leaf and package in a sealed plastic bag.
  • Ham & cheese slices on a roll or bread
When you go to a fast-food restaurant, keep the small packages of condiments. They come in handy when making a sack lunch.
Most sandwiches and some salads are best assembled just before eating. Add your own sack lunch ideas to the list. Bon Appetite!
